About Our Classes

Allignment Yoga
Iyengar was developed by BKS Iyengar out of the Hatha yoga tradition. It is focused on body alignment, holding the poses for toning and strength and using the breath to more fully achieve the intent of a pose i.e. chest opening poses help achieve deeper breathing and standing poses strengthen the spine for overall health and balance, etc. It makes use of props and modifications which are useful for getting the benefit of a specific pose or focusing on one aspect of the pose. This ability to take the pose apart helps achieve a deeper understanding of the pose and makes it easier for people of varying physical flexibility and strength to move forward.
